Jose’s story- helping to repair homes devastated by a hurricane

EQUIPPING CHURCHES TO RESTORE PEOPLE TO CHRIST!

EPH 4:12

Do you recall Jesus’ parable in Matthew 25:37-40 when He said “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” What if “one of the least of these” is an addict, who knocks on your door for help?

GOD IS AT WORK THROUGH LOVESERVES, EQUIPPING CHURCHES TO BRING HIS LOVE AND HOPE TO LOST AND BROKEN-HEARTED PEOPLE.

Love thy Neighbor

We recently heard testimony from Pastor Teodoro, (a LoveServes trained pastor) about how his church members are living out Jesus’ teaching in this parable and how that transformed the life of a man named Jose’.

It all started with a vision. His pastor went through LoveServes training and learned what it meant to have a vision for his community. LoveServes mentored him to identify the greatest needs in the community and then assisted him in equipping the church members to do the work needed to meet those needs. (Ephesians 4:12)

The work of the church members is an expression of their love for Jesus. As community members begin to experience the love of Christ through their outreach and care, hearts are being opened to hear about the hope of the Gospel message.

Hello everyone, my name is José Hernández and I want to share with you my journey of transformation. A few years ago, I was addicted to drugs and alcohol. My life was consumed with violence -I’d fight anyone who crossed my path. But today, I stand before you as a changed person. I found a new path, a path of hope and healing in Jesus Christ.

I found this hope and healing through members of the Church of God International Ministry in Higuey, Dominican Republic.

I am so grateful for the support and encouragement of my friends, neighbors, and especially my pastor and my sister who never gave up on me and who shared the Gospel with me. Thanks to the power of God, I am now doing well. I can’t believe how far I’ve come from the dark days – I was nothing more than a walking cadaver, emaciated and on the brink of death.

Anyone who knew me a few years ago would confirm that I was a completely different person. I was filled with anger and no one wanted to be around me. The scars on my body are a constant reminder of the violence I used to seek. The last fight I was in, I struck someone with a machete and suffered serious injuries in return. The father of that person came to my house the next day trying to kill me. Instead of fighting, I went to Pastor Teo’s church – he would always talk about Jesus when he saw me in the community – I knew he would pray for me.  I went to the church asking for help because I thought I was going to die. The people began praying for me and that is when I accepted Jesus as my Savior. It was the beginning of a new path.

I made the choice to turn my life around and to surrender it to the Lord. I realized I needed to break free from the cycle of violence and addiction.

Today, I’m proud to say that I have left my violent past behind. I have a new purpose in life, centered around helping others and spreading the message of hope. I want to share my story with anyone who may be going through similar struggles. I’m a living testament to the power of God Almighty. If I can change, anyone can. I pray you will be encouraged by my journey!
